Kept

Privacy Policy

What Kept stores about you, why it stores it, who else sees it, and how to get rid of it.

In effect from 31 July 2026

Kept is operated by MAR Dev (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the Kept mobile app and these pages. Questions go to keptreply@gmail.com.

1. What we collect

Only what the app needs to keep your record and let you sign in to it.

Account information

Email address
Identifies your account and is how you sign in.
Password
Handled entirely by Google Firebase Authentication. We never see it or store it.
Display name
What you choose to be called. Shown to other people if you claim a handle.
Google account
If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.

Your record

Everything you create inside the app is stored against your account so it survives reinstalling and reaches your other devices:

What we do not collect

2. What other people can see

Your record is private by default. Nothing you log is visible to anyone else until you claim a handle, which is what creates a public profile.

Once you have a handle, these become visible to people who follow you or open your profile: your display name, handle, bio, profile banner, the titles you log, your ratings and reviews, the lists you publish, and the likes and comments you leave. Your email address is never shown to other users.

You can restrict this in the app under Settings → Privacy, or remove it entirely by deleting your account.

3. Where it is stored

Your record is stored in Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore), operated by Google LLC. Firebase servers may be located outside your country, including in the United States. Google’s handling of that data is covered by the Firebase Privacy and Security policy.

Cover art and your art overrides are also cached in local storage on your own device. Clearing them is a button in Settings → Storage, and uninstalling the app removes them.

4. Metadata sources

Kept does not host any catalogue of its own. When you search or open a title, the app requests that information from third-party sources. Those requests contain your search terms and your device’s IP address, and are subject to each source’s own privacy policy. We do not send them your identity, your account or your record.

TMDB
Films and television. Kept uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
RAWG
Games.
Open Library
Books.
Google Books
Books.
The New York Times
Bestseller lists, via the NYT Books API.
AniList
Manga.
Comic Vine
Comics.

5. Notifications

If you turn notifications on, Kept asks Android for permission and uses Firebase Cloud Messaging to deliver them. Refusing costs you nothing else in the app, and you can turn them off at any time in Settings or in Android’s own settings.

6. How long we keep it

Your record is kept for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your record and your public content are deleted from our live systems immediately, and from backups within 30 days. See Delete your account.

7. Your rights

You can see and edit everything in your record from inside the app. You can delete all of it at any time, without asking us.

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to a copy of your data, to correct it, to object to how it is handled, or to complain to a data protection authority. To exercise any of these, write to keptreply@gmail.com from the address on your account and we will respond within 30 days.

8. Children

Kept is not for children under 13, or under 16 where local law sets that age for consent. We do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you believe a child has an account, write to us and we will remove it.

9. Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the app will say so before the change takes effect. The date at the top is always the version in force.

In short

Kept keeps the record you make and the account you sign in with. It does not track you, does not sell anything, and shows no ads.

Delete the account and the record goes with it.
